After
successful careers in teaching and journalism, Tina
Lazarus and Roma Felstein set up Safe and Sound in
January 2000 in response to the lack of high quality,
accessible first aid training available to parents
and child carers in the London area. A particular concern
was the number of au pairs looking after young children
with no idea of what to do in an emergency: Indeed,
on our first pilot course 7 out of the 10 au pairs
who attended did not know what number to call for an
ambulance!

In
partnership with a team of paediatric health professionals
we created a two part course which would cover everything
from a minor first aid injury requiring nothing more than
a plaster and some tender loving care to the worst case scenario
where a baby or child stops breathing.
We know from our contacts with A & E hospitals that there
is a lot parents can do if their child has an accident to
minimise the injury and thus stop what may start as a minor
incident turning into a major one. And for the more serious
situations knowing what to do until professional help arrives
really could save your child’s life. We have taught
over 6000 people in the last five years, many of whom have
gone on to recommend us to friends and family. First Aid is
not rocket science - everyone can learn to minimise injury
and save a life.
We hope that our courses will give you the skills and confidence
to be able to cope with a minor or major first aid incident.
With five children between us we know only too well that accidents
will happen. However, we also know that a huge number of serious
injuries sustained by babies and children can be avoided.

Our
trainers are all medically qualified professionals
with extensive clinical experience primarily in Accident
and Emergency and/or paediatric nursing or as paramedics.
In addition to this they are experienced in teaching
and understand the concerns and anxieties you may have
regarding the health and safety of your child. |
