     Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled a short list of the most frequently asked questions
relating to Safe and Sound and our courses. Please take time in reading
the below before contacting Safe and Sound, as your question may well be answered here.

Do Safe and Sound Courses satisfy the requirements for the OFSTED voluntary register for childcarers?

You need to attend the 12 Hour (2 Day) Course in order to apply for the OFSTED Voluntary register..

Will I get a certificate for the course?

On successful completion of a Safe & Sound First Aid course you will be issued with a certificate of attendance valid for three years, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines. However, we strongly recommend that parents or carers of babies and children update their resuscitation skills annually to ensure that they remember what to do in an emergency when there is no time for reference books or phone calls.

What qualifications do Safe and Sound trainers have?

Safe and Sound trainers are highly qualified and experienced medical and emergency service professionals with extensive clinical and teaching experience predominantly in paediatric and/or Accident and Emergency care. Their experience means that they can confidently respond to questions and anxieties, which may arise amongst parents and carers in a way that many first aid trainers who have no clinical experience are unable to do.

Will my au pair be able to understand the course?

Our courses are suitable for anyone with a working knowledge of English. We also provide pre course language support materials so that non-native English speakers can familiarise themselves with the terms and vocabulary used in advance of the course. Please remember to request pre course information on your booking form. Our trainers will ensure that they have seen each course participant demonstrate resuscitation skills. Occasionally a course participant will be asked to repeat the course free of charge if the trainer feels that they have not understood what to do in an emergency. In these circumstances, a certificate will not be issued.

How do I organise a private course?

Please call or email your preferred dates which can be evening’s daytime or weekends and we will get back to you as soon as we can confirm availability. Once the date is agreed you need to download the booking form and return it with your payment in order to confirm the booking.

How much space do I need to run a course at home?

You need enough space for everyone in the group to sit comfortably with space on the floor for at least two adults to lie down. Most people use a lounge, kitchen area where they can push furniture to the sides of the room.

Do I need to provide anything for the course?

Your trainer will arrive with all the equipment needed to teach your group. There will be time during the course for a tea or coffee break and you may wish to provide light refreshments.
