What to expect from this course
As with our physical health, looking after our mental health is important for all of us. This interactive and engaging course is suitable for everyone and aims not just to help people feel comfortable talking about mental health but to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to support a colleague experiencing a period of mental ill-health.
Topics covered include:
- an understanding of what we understand by the term mental health
- common mental health issues
- myth busting – challenging the stigma and fear that surround mental illness
- an introduction to looking after your own mental health and wellbeing
- lone working and your mental health
- recognising the signs of mental ill-health in yourself and those around you
- gaining the confidence to help someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue
- getting comfortable with uncomfortable conversations
- understanding how to signpost people so that they can access professional support
